Ethnic and Asian Rhinoplasty
There is a huge variation in nasal shapes and skin types amongst people of different ethnic backgrounds. Rhinoplasty on Non-Caucasian patients has historically been called “Ethnic Rhinoplasty”. It is an old fashioned term frequently used in the USA to refer to rhinoplasty on patients from African-American, Asian,Hispanic and Middle Eastern backgrounds. Surgeons must be sensitive to the individual needs of these patients as they frequently are not desiring Caucasian noses but simply want their nose a little more refined and attractive but at the same time want to retain their ethnic characteristics. Unlike Caucasian patients, in this type of rhinoplasty a more refined nose is often best achieved by building up or augmenting the nose in parts and sometimes narrowing the base of the nostrils.
